Two pages in the app help you see what will happen before your shoppers do, and find out why when something looks wrong.
Cart tester
The cart tester runs your gift settings against a sample cart you build, without touching your store.
- Sample cart: add products with their price and quantity, mark a line as a gift card or an excluded product, and add a discount on a line or an order discount code amount.
- Presets: Qualifying cart, Just below, 40% off code, Code that does not combine, and Gift card only.
- Gift in stock and Gift price: try a gift that is out of stock, or priced differently.
- Currency rate: 1 for your store currency. For example 0.92 to try a market that pays in another currency.
- Result: for each gift, whether the cart gets it, how much of the cart counts toward the minimum, and the steps that led there.
- Scheduled gifts: a gift that has not started is marked Scheduled. Nothing is added before its start date; the steps show what happens with the sample cart once it starts.
Diagnostics
Diagnostics checks your setup and lists anything that stops a gift from working, with what to do. It checks:
- that the Giftproof app embed is on in your live theme;
- how many gifts are running or scheduled, and whether they pass the app's limits;
- each gift product: deleted, not active, not on your Online Store, sold only with a subscription, out of stock, with a weight, needing shipping, or with no stock limit;
- that the storefront and checkout have the latest gift settings, that the checkout safety check is on, and whether it lets checkout go ahead if the check itself cannot run (the app sets it up that way; if you change it in Shopify, the app leaves your choice as it is);
- errors Shopify reports for the app's discounts and for the checkout safety check;
- gifts whose own settings do not combine with product, order or shipping discounts, and discounts in your store that will not combine with the gift, including free shipping codes;
- your live theme.
If Diagnostics says the settings are out of date or the checkout safety check is off, select Republish settings.
Support summary
To contact support, copy the Support summary from Diagnostics into your email. It contains your gift settings and the check results, and no customer data.
Check a live cart
Open your store and add ?free_gift_debug=1 to the end of the address (or &free_gift_debug=1 if the address already has a ?). The browser console (F12) then shows every decision the gift makes, until that browser tab is closed.
