Giftproof ("the App") lets Shopify merchants give a free product when a cart reaches a minimum spend. This policy explains what information the App uses and why.
Information we store
- Your shop's domain and the access credentials Shopify issues when you install the App. We need them to read and update the App's discounts and settings in your store. With them we store the time the App was last installed or authorized, and the time your shop last uninstalled the App, so that a delayed notice about an earlier uninstall, or Shopify's shop data deletion request, does not delete a newer installation. They are stored in our database and deleted when you uninstall the App, and again on Shopify's shop data deletion request (sent 48 hours after uninstall) in case anything remained; that request also deletes the recorded uninstall time.
- The last time your shop was on the App's Pro plan, and the first time it was on the Free plan's limit, so that your gifts keep running for 7 days before that limit applies. It is deleted with your shop's other data on Shopify's shop data deletion request.
- Server logs: our server records each request's method, page address without its query string (which can carry session tokens), status and response time, and your shop's domain with errors and webhook events (for example a failed settings update), so we can fix problems. They contain no customer data and are kept for 7 days by our hosting provider.
- We do not store your gift settings on our servers. They are kept in your own store, as Shopify discounts and app settings (metafields).
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect or store personal information about your customers. The storefront script runs in the shopper's browser and only talks to your store's own Shopify cart and pages. It does not send anything to our servers and sets no cookies. It keeps a small note in the browser's session storage, which the browser deletes when the tab is closed: about the current cart (for example, that the shopper removed the gift), whether the gift product was in stock when last looked up, and whether the store's debug mode is on. So that several open tabs of your store agree, it tells the other tabs in the same browser which gifts it removed or added back and whether the shopper removed one; that message is not stored.
- When a customer asks you for their data, or asks for it to be deleted, Shopify sends the App a notice that names the customer. The App reads the notice only to check that it really comes from Shopify and to answer it, and keeps nothing from it: it holds no customer data to return or delete.
- We do not use analytics or advertising trackers in the App or in your storefront.
How we use information
Only to provide the App: creating and updating your gift discounts, publishing gift settings to your storefront and checkout, and showing you diagnostics. To check which plan your shop has chosen (Free or Pro), the App asks Shopify through the access it has to your store.
Sharing
We do not sell or share information. Our hosting provider Fly.io stores the data listed above on our behalf, in Tokyo, Japan.
Privacy requests
We respond to Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks. Because we hold no customer data, customer data requests and deletion requests have nothing to return or delete; shop deletion requests remove your shop's records.
